Michael Totten is a descendent of two multi-generational military families dating back to the American Civil War. Totten began his decade-long military career serving the U.S. Army as an Infantryman in the 3/2 Stryker Cavalry Regiment during the Iraq War where he was deployed on two occasions. He subsequently transitioned to providing executive protection services for diplomatic missions across the Middle East on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Upon each return home, it became evident that the compounding effects associated with the difficulties of reacclimating to civilian life was an obstacle he could not face alone. After acquiring vital support through various veteran-focused organizations as well as encouragement from family and friends, he successfully overcame the challenges he faced and recognized the incontrovertible need to champion for his fellow veterans. He aspires to help fellow veterans by advocating for veterans to seek help, connecting veterans to valuable resources, and reducing mental health stigmas.
